Healthy snack ideas for your child
The busy lifestyle of many parents today leads to a cycle of fast food and quick dinners in front of the TV. Parents just don’t have the time, with many families just doing their best to keep the family together and their heads above water.
The internet provides a huge array of healthy, low fat, low sugar, snack recipes kids love. Adjust your kid’s favorite recipes, use a sugar substitute or low fat butter option when fixing that next batch of cookies.
Remove all those “bad” treats, replace them with healthier options. Fruits and veggies with dips are always a quick and easy option. Keep pre prepared fruit and veggie packs in the fridge with a low fat dressing or low fat yogurt for dip options
A whole grain cereal is a great snack. The cereal aisle is full of options. Many favorites can be replaced with healthier versions, replace chips with pretzels or whole grain chips, puddings and gelatin with sugar free, fat free versions. Sandwiches made with whole grain bread, low fat peanut butter and sugar free jelly, cut into a fun shape, a great snack for any kid.
For quickness, low fat string cheese, yogurt sticks, graham crackers and cereal bars work great, just be sure to check the packaging, low fat doesn’t always mean low sugar and low sugar doesn’t always mean low fat.
